Effectiveness of Constraint-Induced Language Therapy for Aphasia: Evidence From Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses January 20th, 2023 Constraint-induced language therapy (CILT) is an aphasia treatment that incorporates neuroplasticity principles of forced verbal use and high-intensity training to facilitate language recovery in individuals with stroke-induced aphasia (Pulvermüller et al., 2001). The burgeoning CILT literature has led to systematic reviews (SRs) that summarize treatment results. In this project, we appraised the quality and examined findings reported in several SRs to draw conclusions about the effectiveness of CILT.
Neurorehabilitation for the Uninsured: Georgia Rehabilitation Services Volunteer Partnership Clinic January 20th, 2023 Individuals who experience brain injury and are uninsured often do not have access to health care services following their injury. The Georgia Rehabilitation Services Volunteer Partnership (GA RSVP) Clinic is a free outpatient rehabilitation program for uninsured individuals with acquired brain injury (ABI) and/or spinal cord injury (SCI) for all racial and ethnic backgrounds. While the clinic serves people with ABI and SCI, this clinical focus article will focus on people with ABI by describing the clinic, lessons learned from operations, an ABI patient case study, and future directions.
Viewpoint Telepractice 2025: Exploring Telepractice Service Delivery During COVID-19 and Beyond January 20th, 2023 The purpose of this article is to outline the challenges and opportunities faced by speech-language pathologists (SLPs) providing telepractice services as the profession approaches the 100th anniversary of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2025. As this anniversary approaches, SLPs nationwide will reflect on the profession's past, present, and future. Undoubtedly, issues concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and the use of telepractice technology during this time will be analyzed. This article will outline several challenges for the profession and clinicians to consider for the longevity of telepractice service delivery, including (a) consensus on eHelper/facilitator terminology, (b) designating a telepractice service delivery model, (c) exploring telepractice occupational culture, and (d) pursuing future directions (e.g., ethnographic applications and cultural-linguistic diversity).
Considerations in Utilizing Translanguaging Practices to Meet the Language Needs of Maya Children in US Schools January 17th, 2023 Meeting the needs of Maya children in U.S. schools requires extensive training. Research is lacking in best practices to support students with intersectional identities. This article provides a roadmap centralized on Maya children's experiences, acknowledging the linguistic diversity of Maya immigrants, their language and cultural practices, and their integration into or exclusion from minoritized and White neighborhoods in the United States to provide a starting point for culturally responsive service delivery.
Examining core vocabulary with language development for early symbolic communicators January 16th, 2023 Core vocabulary lists are frequently used to select vocabulary for early symbolic communicators who require augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). The current study extended existing work by investigating how core vocabulary lists overlap and diverge from typical language development.

Advocacy is how we work towards positive changes for audiology and speech-language pathology and successful advocacy relies on ASHA’s 223,000 members taking an active role. For 2023, we have identified nearly 40 goals to advance the public policies impacting audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and those you they serve. These goals fall into five categories and include both longstanding issues and some new ones.
